As a kid earns money he is also learning skills he will take into the world, he learns how to get along with other people and financial value. Parents can talk and try to teach their children, yet a job will instill healthy values, motivation and trade-offs.

A job also helps give a child pride knowing he can accomplish a worthwhile achievement. Lets take a look at some smart and meaningful ways for kids to make money.

Soccer is a very popular in our area. The older children hold a soccer camp for the younger children in the largest backyard one week during the summer. Everyone looks forward to this and the older ones make a little money. Its a win-win situation.

In our neighborhood the kids have a new school clothes fund raising car wash each year. And two boys always put notes in all of the mailboxes letting us know that theyll care for pets. The younger children have their lemonade stands up weekly.

Elderly people who cant get out are grateful to have someone run errands to pick up milk, bread or other small items. You could also help them with light housekeeping if needed. Leave your name and information at grocery stores or in mailboxes of the elderly.

A one-page neighborhood newsletter where you sell space for ads is a good idea. This way the news gets around and everyone is happy. For an example: 10 year old dog walker or a 13 year old car washer, yard sales, furniture for sale, car for sale, etc.

During the summer days parents often look for ways to have their children entertained in a constructive manner. You could set up a summer camp program for kids in your neighborhood and entertain them with crafts and games a few hours per day.

A couple of girl friends could get together and make bracelets, fun frames, decorate/paint t-shirts, small crafts or anything else that is popular or fun. Then together sell them door-to-door, to neighbors, family or set up a table like a lemonade stand.

If you notice a yard or garage sale sign go up in your neighborhood, approach the home politely and ask if you could set a table up to sale lemonade and cookies the day of the sale. You have a 50 per cent chance theyll say yes and do not have to advertise.

Sometimes the children themselves have the best ideas for ways to make money if given the chance. Before summer begins you could hold a neighborhood meeting and plan different ways the children could make money.
