As a kid earns money he is also learning skills he will take into the world, he learns how to get along with other people and financial value. Parents can talk and try to teach their children, yet a job will instill healthy skepticism, delayed gratification and trade-offs.
A job also helps give a child pride knowing he can accomplish a worthwhile achievement. Lets take a look at some smart, interesting, and meaningful ways for kids to make money.
In our neighborhood the kids have a new school clothes fund raising car wash each year. Two boys always put signs up and notes in all of our mailboxes that they care for pets when needed. The younger children have their lemonade stands up weekly.
Soccer is very popular in our area. And the older children hold a soccer camp for the younger children in the largest backyard one week during the summer. Everyone looks forward to this and the older ones make a little money.
A one-page neighborhood newsletter where you sell space for ads is a great idea. This way the news gets around and everyone is happy. For an example: 10 year old dog walker or a 13 year old car washer, yard sales, furniture for sale, car for sale, etc.
If there are elderly people near by they often wish they could hire kids to do the things their own kids use to do. Try approaching senior citizens and see if they need errands, shopping to be done or anything else.
During the summer days parents often look for ways to have their children entertained in a constructive way. You could set up a summer camp program for kids in the neighborhood and entertain them with crafts and games a few hours each day.
A couple of good girl friends could get together and make bracelets, fun frames, decorate/paint t-shirts, small crafts or anything else that is popular or fun. Then together sell them door-to-door, to neighbors, family or set up a table like a lemonade stand.
If you notice a yard or garage sale sign go up in your neighborhood, approach the home politely and ask them if you could set a table up to sale lemonade and cookies the day of the sale. You have a 50 per cent chance theyll say yes and do not have to advertise.
Sometimes the children themselves have the best ideas for ways to make money if given the chance. Before summer begins you could hold a meeting at a home in the neighborhood with all of those interested in planning different ways to earn money.
